PRESS - RELEASE JOINT SCHOOL FOR YOUTH OF KYRGYZSTAN AND TAJIKISTAN
On December 5, in Osh city of Kyrgyzstan a five-day youth cross-border school has started for young entrepreneurs, representatives of local authorities, teachers, participants of border conflicts and other young people living in several villages along the Kyrgyz - Tajik state border between Sughd region of Tajikistan and Batken region of Kyrgyzstan. About 80 young people from both countries between the ages of 18 and 35 years old learn together: the role of youth in building peace, the basis and the types of tolerance, the basic principles of entrepreneurship and other topics that may contribute to a peaceful dialogue between peers of the two neighboring territory. Particular attention is paid to the participation of girls in these events.
In the coming months it is scheduled to hold a series of similar educational meetings in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, which will be formed by several trained youth groups capable to implement joint cross-country business projects and solve socio-economic problems in the border villages on both sides of the border.
This activity is implemented on the initiative of UNDP Tajikistan and UNDP Kyrgyzstan in the framework of cross-border cooperation project. School is conducted by: Foundation for Tolerance International in Kyrgyzstan, and the Association of scientific - technical intelligentsia of Tajikistan. The next such meeting is scheduled to conduct in the beginning of 2017 year in Khujand, Tajikistan.
It is expected that the young people trained under the project will also be actively involved in the project activities for the prevention of youth conflicts in their border villages.
